Inaugural Final Fridays Gallery Walk venues announced
LAWRENCE, Kan.—Lawrence’s first Final Fridays, a monthly arts extravaganza, will take place downtown on Friday, Aug. 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Over 30 locations are lined up for the inaugural event with expansion plans already in the works. Final Fridays is being presented throughout Downtown Lawrence by the Downtown Lawrence Arts District.
The first gallery walk will include 12 commercial galleries, 10 restaurants and a number of local merchants who will take part in Final Fridays by hosting live music or displaying art. Two empty retail spaces will become “flash galleries” filled with temporary exhibits by local artists.
“Lawrence is such a great place to experience the arts because there are so many talented people and such variety in what they do. We are especially excited about incorporating performing arts as well as visual arts,” said Jane Pennington, Director of Downtown Lawrence, Inc. “Street performers will be found a few steps away from more serious musicians and small, whimsical works of art will be a few steps away from dramatic, large canvasses. There will even be an interactive sculpture made of recycled milk bottles that appears to extend through the window of one of the flash galleries.”
