This tour focuses on what some historians call the bloodiest single event of the Civil War. Retrace William Quantrill's fiery path through Lawrence as he and 400 pro-slavery guerrillas burned most of the "Free State Fortress," in 1863. You'll make stop at the mass grave in Oak Hill Cemetery, visit sites and markers and see homes and buildings that survived the raid, while listening to stories of individual tragedy and heroism.

Visit the Territorial Capital Museum, a National Registar Site, was started as the Kansas Capital Building, later completed as Lane University, site of President Eisenhower's parents wedding, along with three floors of displayed artifacts.
